Developing Technologies

In addition to consulting in wind turbine technology, REM is also interested in improving on the technology that will increase the efficiency of the VAWT in all wind conditions.

Our current design, being a Savonius-style turbine, is drag dominated. The Savonius airfoil and blade configuration is notorious for starting up in low wind conditions.  They are often used as ancillary turbines that are attached to Darrieus type rotors in order to accelerate the latter through negative torque tangential speed ratio (TSR) values on the way to achieving self-sustaining torques.

One way these systems can be improved is by matching the generator power to the optimum wind conditions. This allows the turbine to develop its power more efficiently. There are various way to do this - by using permanent magnets with lower magnetization, fixing the rotor/stator gap with more robust bearing lands, and by reducing the diameter of the generator, to mention a few.

REM is interested in working with others who would like to share joint development in this area.

Sea Power

A unique use for these omni-directional, vertical axis turbines is in ocean shores and rivers, where wave action and water movement provide constant energy. REM is working on developing technology that will allow the turbines to be submerged and used to harness this plentiful source of power.

REM is interested in working with others who would like to share joint development in this area.

Wind & Solar Power

There is a burgeoning interest in local alternative power sources. Solar can be integrated with small wind systems to take advantage of optimum sunlight and wind conditions.

All-Weather 300 - Wind and Solar Hybrid System

REM is interested in working with others who would like to share joint development in this area.

Hydrogen Power

Hydrogen is one of the sources of energy that could replace the combustion of fossil fuels as one of our planet's primary power sources.

REM is developing products that utilize electrolysis to produce hydrogen and oxygen gas. These products will be used in the automotive industry and in the consumer market.

HydroDrive 500 - Internal Combusion Engine Performance Optimizer

HydroFlow 500- Turbine Driven Hydrogen Generator
