Power Systems
Robert McGeary worked with PacWind LLC, a Torrance, CA company that invented a unique style of vertical axis wind turbines. The following discussion is about the approach that we took to product development.
The founder of that company, Phil Watkins, passed away and the family sold the company to WePower LLC. It is not clear if this company is still selling the turbines. However, REM continues to consult with potential users of wind turbines using this same philosophy.
Small Home User
At PacWind our 5kW renewable Power Systems could be installed, with proper site preparations, in just one single day.
Service checks and maintenance could be completed with both feet firmly planted upon the ground. At PacWind the SPT (Single Person Tilt) service feature allowed the customer to conveniently lower the entire Power system to a safe and comfortable ground working level.
Commercial Power System / Building Mount Application
Our fully scaleable commercial Power Systems could be either retro fitted to an existing building, made a part of future office/warehouse development, or could easily serve as stand alone renewable power source at ground level too.
Building Retro Fit/New Structure Installations: With every building mount, our Power System provided an inherent built-in savings for utilities and air conditioning. When customers chose to install one or more power turbines directly upon the roof of their commercial structures, energy cost would plummet.
Additional roof mount benefits included: Greater Power Security, Investment Protection, and enhanced overall Wind Turbine performance too.
Non-Roof Top Benefits: Our Power Systems could easily be placed within small or limited areas that normally would not support older horizontal styled turbines which normally require far larger amounts of real estate to safely operate.
Wind Farm Applications:
The intelligent wind farm developer is concerned with 1) Initial Cost, 2) Limited Space and 3) Greater / Faster Return On Investment.
PacWind's Power Systems are less problematic when considering all the typical engineering stacking issues. With PacWind's our unique single person tilt-up (SPT) maintenance feature allowed the wind farm operator both safer and quicker service procedures, resulting in less downtime compared to other older wind power units.
